4. Rationale:
This lesson is taught to enable students to describe people and things using
Spanish adjectives. After this lesson, students will be able to use basic
Spanish adjectives to describe people in a physical as well as in an abstract
way. Learning these words advances the student learning of a foreign language
and provides them with more vocabulary to express them more fluently. Being
bilingual is a wonderful tool that makes people more desirable when it is time
for them to join the workforce. My goal is to get the students to think
critically in all the ways people can be described both intrinsically and
extrinsically and aid themselves with the adjective vocabulary that we have
learned in class so far.
5. Prerequisite Skills:
-Students must have knowledge of basic Spanish words and verbs that we have
learned in class.
-Students must know at least ten adjectives that describe physical and abstract traits of
people.
-Students must have a friend or people in their family they can describe.
-Spanish 1A is a course designed for people who have not previously learned the language
and are newly introduced to it.
6. Anticipatory Set: Personas
Famosas (Famous People): As the students walk in the classroom, the teacher will
have pictures of famous people who appeal to the students. These people could be
actors, actresses, singers, rappers and so on. Students will be given a list of
adjectives that both describe these celebrities physically as well as
intrinsically. The students will match the adjective with the famous person
whom it describes.
